El Cajon Community Information


El Cajon is the seat of commerce, culture, and government in the East County, and has been for more than 150 years. A thriving city of about 95,000, its incorporated area encompasses approximately 14 El Cajon Panoramic Viewsquare miles of land a little more than 430 feet above sea level – a giant, protected basin surrounded by foothills that earned it the name El Cajon, or 'big box.'

Located just 17 miles east of downtown San Diego, El Cajon's population is just under 100,000 residents.

El Cajon real estate is affordable by Southern California standards. Offering diverse housing options from million dollar homes with golf course and mountain range views, gated communities, pleasantly located and affordable track housing, and mobile home parks El Cajon residents enjoy a convenient commute to most areas of San Diego County.

Based on the 2008 STAR and CAHSEE tests, most all public schools in this East County community have met or exceeded their school Academic Performance Index growth targets.

Well known for its Mother Goose Parade - the largest of its type west of the Mississippi - the parade's focus being to: "... unite friends and families on a day of free family entertainment; and to understand the value of unity, family bonding, and social togetherness for all ages, races, and ethnicities".

Sycuan Resorts Willow Glen Golf CourseAvid golfers will enjoy some of the counties finest golf courses. Five Championship golf course, a Nine Hole Course and an Executive Course are all within fifteen minutes of downtown Alpine. Sycuan Resort offers golfers two Championship courses (Willow Glen and Oak Glen) and an Executive eighteen hole course (Pine Glen). Just five minutes further down the street are the Steele Canyon which offers 27 holes and Cottonwood Golf Club which offers 36 holes. Add to that the Barona golf course that's just 30 minutes away from Alpine and you have 135 holes for the avid golfer.
